In Memory of
Captain Moses Blackwater
we are honoring our favorite captain for 4 seasons of our event, Moses Two-Toes Blackwater, who has been called by the wind & seas to sail beyond the mortal plane on the waters of eternity. Fierce with playful imagination, generous to all, and free from the vices of rum and spirits, he happily plundered his way through his life. His spirit will live on in our art, our adventures, our festivities, and our memories.
How We're Honoring Him
We will have multiple events & activities dedicated to him & his legacy as a performer.
At this year's event only (2025), there will be an Auction of many of his pirate wares, punctuated by comedy sketches, musical interludes, and overall hijinks.
For the rest of the foreseeable future, people who wish to pay respects will be able to visit the Ship of Recollection, a ship comprised of memories. Any trinket tossed into the hull of the ship will be added to it's decoration, making it an infinite mosaic of year's past.
The Lore of the Ship of Recollection
The Ship of Recollection has long sailed the oceans of our minds. It carries all of the memories we cherish, and has been known to take and stow away those that we’d like to forget. It is an ever-changing vessel, made up of the memories it holds, and crewed by beloved people who have become memories.
The ship gained a new captain when Moses “Two Toes” Blackwater stepped aboard. Part of the ship, part of the crew.
Ocean Renaissance became the ship’s home port. The ship itself is rarely seen, but with Two Toes at the wheel, it always comes ashore for Ocean Ren. As the ship collects memories and grows heavy with cherished objects, the crew finds an occasional need for a good cleaning. That is when the Pirate Auction visits.
The Auction brings things that need new homes to people who will appreciate them…as well as some nonsense. Amid the well-loved garb and items, there always seem to be things the crew just found laying around.
The Pirate Auction appears in places where the wall between worlds is thin - events where fae, pirates, and other fantastical beings walk freely. It will find a Lead Auctioneer and let its magic work through them and reach out to others.
